An opportunity has become available for an ambitious Ecology Consultant to join a growing environmental consultancy working across a diverse range of planning, development, and environmental projects.

This role offers the opportunity to support the delivery of ecological assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) projects, habitat surveys, and planning-related ecology work. You'll work as part of a collaborative team, gaining exposure to a broad range of projects while continuing to develop your technical, survey, and consultancy skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of ecology and biodiversity projects from inception through to completion.
  • Prepare ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments, sustainability-related ecological assessments, and protected species reports.
  • Undertake Biodiversity Net Gain calculations using recognised biodiversity metric methodologies.
  • Conduct habitat, UKHab, PEA, bat, and protected species surveys.
  • Produce habitat mapping and spatial analysis using GIS software.
  • Assist with ecological planning projects and provide technical support to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support the preparation of proposals, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Attend project and client meetings, contributing technical input where required.
  • Liaise with clients, project teams, consultants, and external stakeholders.
  • Assist senior team members with project delivery and report production.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Associate membership of CIEEM or working towards full membership.
  • Experience within ecological consultancy or a related environmental role.
  • Ability to undertake PEAs and ecological surveys on a range of sites.
  • Experience with protected species surveys, including bat surveys.
  • Competency using GIS software for habitat mapping and ecological assessments.
  • Understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain principles and biodiversity metric methodologies.
  • Good botanical knowledge and familiarity with habitat classification systems.
  • Experience preparing ecological reports and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication, report writing, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.
  • Enthusiasm for biodiversity conservation and ecological enhancement.
