Role Purpose
As an Electrical Project Manager, you will be responsible for a number of construction projects within the Electrical Business Unit. The Project Manager plans, organises, leads, coordinates, and controls all activities related to the construction of Electrical (LV, MV & HV) projects. You will take part in the conceptual development of engineering construction projects and lead their organisation, scheduling, and implementation.
You will act as the key point of contact for the client, building strong, assertive, and positive relationships. The role requires ensuring that all project sites meet and exceed environmental, health, and safety standards, while maintaining a consistent focus on quality and successful project delivery in line with the company’s vision, mission, and values.
Electrical Project Manager ResponsibilitiesProject Start-Up:
Arrange and chair the handover of projects from the estimating department to the construction team.
Liaise with the Operations Manager (OM) on project staffing.
Validate the project and develop the business plan, cost control systems, cash flow, and billing schedules.
Produce procurement plans, drawing/design plans, construction programmes, s-curves, and histograms.
Liaise with the client and design team regarding procurement and engineering matters.
Develop project-specific safety and quality plans.
Mobilise subcontractors and labour resources in accordance with the project business plan.
Oversee the establishment and mobilisation of the site.
Project Running Phase:
Agree on a training plan for staff and operatives in conjunction with the OM.
Manage the site team to ensure efficient day-to-day operations.
Monitor compliance with programme timelines, material deliveries, engineering requirements, and safety standards.
Attend client meetings and hold weekly progress meetings with subcontractors, addressing safety and training matters.
Ensure effective cost and sales control in coordination with the Quantity Surveyor (QS).
Keep the client informed on current sales and project progress.
Measure productivity at the workface weekly and maintain overall progress tracking.
Submit monthly internal reports to the OM.
Project Completion:
Oversee testing and commissioning in accordance with the project’s Quality Plan.
Ensure final design audits (if applicable) are completed by the Engineering Manager (EM).
Certify all ‘life systems’ before the handover date.
Ensure all systems are demonstrated to the Client and District Surveyor.
Handover O&M manuals and record drawings.
Prepare the final account with the QS, submit it, and agree with the client in line with company objectives.
Demobilise the site team and establishment in conjunction with the OM.
Produce and submit a detailed project close-out report to the OM.
Archive project documentation.
Maintain client contact during the warranty period and beyond, until retention monies are collected.
Other Duties:
Maintain a site/day book.
Attend and actively participate in monthly project manager meetings.
Develop your skills in line with the agreed training plan.
Propose ideas for continuous company improvement.
Maintain strong working relationships with clients throughout the entire project lifecycle.
Essential Requirements for the Electrical Project Manager
Third-level qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a strong trade background.
Ideally 10+ years of relevant experience in a similar role.
Experience in large data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial, or large-scale office fit-out projects under a main contractor.
Experience working as the PSCS (Project Supervisor for the Construction Stage).
In-depth knowledge of the Project Manager role and engineering principles.
Strong commercial understanding and awareness.
Thorough understanding of Health, Safety, and Environmental systems and procedures.
Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
Ability to plan, programme, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Skilled in assessing risks and allocating time and resources appropriately.
Strong leadership and motivational skills.
Effective communication, performance management, and feedback skills.
Ability to estimate and control project costs efficiently.
