Junior Mechanical Engineer – European Projects (On-Site)
We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of mechanical building services installations across retail and commercial fit-out projects throughout Europe.
Working closely with Project Managers, design teams, and site supervisors, you will assist in coordinating and overseeing HVAC and mechanical systems installations to ensure works are delivered safely, compliantly, and to the highest quality standards. This is a site-based role offering excellent exposure across the full project lifecycle, from design support through commissioning and handover.
This position is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to gain practical, international construction experience within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Engineering Support
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical submittals
- Assist in resolving design queries and developing practical engineering solutions
- Support procurement through equipment reviews, data sheets, and material approvals
- Ensure installations comply with European standards and project requirements
Site Coordination & Installation Oversight
- Monitor mechanical installations on site for quality, safety, and compliance
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other disciplines to maintain progress
- Attend site meetings and assist with daily coordination activities
- Track installation progress and provide updates to the Project Manager
- Support preparation of method statements and risk assessments
Quality Assurance & Documentation
- Maintain inspection test plans (ITPs), quality records, and red-line drawings
- Manage RFIs, technical submittals, and design clarifications
- Assist with equipment tagging, asset registers, and compliance documentation
- Ensure all project records are accurate and up to date
Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- Support commissioning activities including testing and system verification
- Assist with preparation of O&M manuals and as-built documentation
- Help ensure smooth transition from construction to handover
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote safe working practices on site
- Support adherence to project H&S and integrated management systems
- Identify and report hazards or non-compliance issues
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 2–3 years’ experience in mechanical building services or construction projects
- Knowledge of HVAC, piping, chilled water, heating, ventilation, and related systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Experience with MS Office and BIM tools (Revit/Navisworks preferred)
- Willingness to travel and work on-site across Europe
- Previous international or commercial project experience is advantageous
