we are working with a respected, mid-sized engineering consultancy is seeking Civil Engineers to join their expanding rail infrastructure team, delivering a variety of railway drainage and associated civil engineering projects. You’ll work on schemes involving trackside drainage systems, earthworks, embankment stabilisation, culverts, soakaways, and related civil works. Projects will span from early-stage optioneering and design through to delivery and implementation, offering exposure to the full project lifecycle. This role provides the chance to collaborate closely with contractors, railway operators, and multidisciplinary design teams, gaining valuable experience across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects.
We welcome applications from both experienced non-chartered engineers looking to progress towards Chartered status, and Chartered engineers ready to take on project leadership and mentoring responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Delivery – Develop and deliver detailed designs for railway drainage systems and related civil works.
- Project Management – Support or lead projects from concept through to completion, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
- Collaboration – Work with internal teams, clients, and external consultants to ensure efficient and effective solutions.
- Site Work – Undertake regular site visits to monitor works, provide technical support, and ensure compliance with standards.
- Quality Assurance – Apply appropriate quality control and safety procedures in line with industry and regulatory standards.
- Mentorship (for Chartered Engineers) – Guide and develop junior staff, contributing to the technical growth of the team.
Requirements
Essential:
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent professional experience).
- Proven experience in drainage design (rail experience preferred, but highways or water backgrounds also considered).
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
- Willingness to gain PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification if not already held.
Desirable:
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or MicroDrainage.
- Previous involvement in Network Rail or London Underground projects.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards it.
