I'm working on behalf of a leading consultancy that is looking to appoint a Technical Director in Transport Planning to join their growing London office. This is a pivotal leadership role within their Transport Planning function, offering the opportunity to shape and grow a highly respected and ambitious team.

The Role

As Technical Director, you’ll play a key role in the continued growth and success of the Transport Planning team. Working alongside other senior leaders, you’ll provide strategic direction, technical leadership, and support business development efforts. Your work will influence some of the most high-profile transport and development projects across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of transport planners, modellers, and technical specialists.
  • Drive the development of transport planning services, enhancing technical quality and innovation.
  • Support the growth strategy for the Transport Planning department, identifying and securing new business opportunities.
  • Act as a key client contact and represent the consultancy in external meetings and forums.
  • Provide oversight and quality assurance on key deliverables including transport assessments, feasibility studies, and strategic transport advice.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and promote best practices within the industry.

About You

  • A recognised expert in Transport Planning, ideally with experience in both the public and private sectors.
  • Strong background in technical delivery, project leadership, and business development.
  • Proven track record of building and managing successful teams.
  • Confident in developing and maintaining client relationships at a senior level.
  • Chartered (or working toward) through CIHT, ICE, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant guidance, policy, and modelling software (e.g., TEMPro, VISUM, SATURN, VISSIM, etc.).

Why This Role?

  • Join a forward-thinking consultancy with a strong reputation in the market.
  • Help shape the direction of a growing Transport Planning department.
  • Be part of a dynamic leadership team that values innovation and collaboration.
  • Competitive salary, hybrid working, and an attractive benefits package.
