We are working with a growing civil and structural engineering consultancy with a specialist focus on the preservation, refurbishment, and redesign of historical bridges. Their projects combine technical precision with heritage sensitivity, helping to protect and modernise iconic structures for future generations.
The Role
They are looking for a skilled Bridge Design Engineer to join the expanding team. This is a fully remote role, with occasional travel to project sites across the North of England (primarily around Leeds). You will work closely with senior engineers, heritage specialists, and local authorities to deliver innovative and sustainable design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake structural assessments, inspections, and design work for bridge refurbishment projects.
- Develop design calculations, reports, and technical drawings in accordance with UK standards and regulations.
- Contribute to feasibility studies and option appraisals for repair, strengthening, and conservation strategies.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and heritage bodies to ensure practical and sensitive design outcomes.
- Support site visits and inspections as required to monitor project progress and resolve technical challenges.
About You
- Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in bridge design and refurbishment (heritage structures desirable).
- Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, DMRB, and relevant UK bridge design standards.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software and CAD packages.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a remote team.
- Chartered or working towards Chartered status (ICE or IStructE) is advantageous.
