About the Company

This newly established ecology consultancy specializes in residential projects, with ambitious plans to expand into larger and more complex ventures. The company focuses on delivering high-quality ecological services with an emphasis on environmental sustainability and client satisfaction. As a growing business, there is an opportunity to build a dedicated, in-house team to help achieve its goals and make a positive impact on the industry.

Role Overview
The company is seeking a skilled and experienced Ecologist to join the team and take on a central role in the day-to-day management of the business. As the first permanent in-house team member, the successful candidate will oversee project management, liaise with clients, and conduct surveys and reports with the assistance of subcontractors. This role offers significant autonomy, allowing the candidate to shape the direction of the business as it grows. The role also presents the opportunity to influence the development of their own benefits package, subject to approval by the business owner. This is a unique opportunity for a professional with a proven track record in managing projects at a high level to make a significant impact on a dynamic and evolving consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring smooth project delivery and client satisfaction
  • Lead ecological surveys and assessments for residential projects
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality reports, ensuring compliance with regulations and client requirements
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and subcontractors, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and to a high standard
  • Liaise with clients to understand their needs, provide updates, and ensure project goals are met
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the business and play a key role in its growth
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to subcontractors, ensuring high-quality work and adherence to industry standards

Qualifications and Skills Needed

  • Proven experience as an Ecologist, ideally within the residential or construction sectors
  • Strong project management skills with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and client liaison skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a growing business
  • Strong knowledge of ecological survey techniques, assessments, and reporting
  • Full UK driving license and the ability to travel to sites in the Midlands region (site-based or remote work options are available)
  • Relevant degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Membership with a recognized professional body (e.g., CIEEM) is desirable but not essential

Benefits and How to Apply
In addition to the opportunity to shape their own role and benefits package, the successful candidate will enjoy a flexible working environment with the possibility of both remote and site-based work. As part of the growing team, they will have significant autonomy and the chance to make a real impact on the direction of the business. This is an exciting opportunity for someone ready to contribute to the company's success and grow alongside it.

Candidates interested in this position should apply by submitting their CV and a cover letter detailing their experience and why they would be a great fit for the role.
