Our UK branch is expanding its capabilities in mechanical, electrical, and building services projects — and we’re looking for a junior but ambitious estimator to join our team in Birmingham.
Role Overview
As a Junior Estimator (M&E) at EAE, you’ll support the cost preparation and bid process for mechanical and electrical works within pharmaceutical, construction, and data centre sectors. You will begin by estimating and helping manage smaller projects and gradually take on more responsibility as you gain experience — with the eventual goal of leading larger, complex tenders.
You’ll work closely with project teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal technical staff, bringing your technical knowledge to ensure that our bids are accurate, competitive, and well-structured.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare material and labour take-offs from mechanical and electrical drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
Assist in compiling tender submissions and cost estimates, including breakdowns by discipline, risk allowances, and contingencies.
Liaise with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to collect competitive pricing (direct and indirect).
Work with senior estimators to support bid strategy, pricing logic, value engineering, and margin analyses.
Maintain internal estimating databases, benchmark rates, standard cost libraries, and supplier lists.
Review design documents, RFPs, and technical specifications to identify cost risks and scope clarifications.
Support post-award cost checks, bid comparisons, and project budget tracking.
Assist in coordinating with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to validate assumptions and method statements.
Over time, take ownership of small projects’ estimates, pricing, and proposal delivery.
Qualifications & Skills
Degree, Higher National Certificate (HNC/HND), or equivalent qualification in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or similar.
Some exposure (1–3 years) to mechanical & electrical systems, construction estimating, or technical support in building services or construction is preferred.
Basic understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, pumps, ductwork) and electrical systems (distribution, wiring, conduits, panels).
Strong numerical and analytical skills, with good attention to detail.
Proficiency in Excel; exposure to estimating software or tools a plus.
Good communication and collaboration skills; ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
Self-motivated, organised, and adaptable — eager to learn and grow.
Based in or willing to relocate near Birmingham; able to work in our UK office and on occasional site visits.
What You’ll Gain
Entry into a high-growth, technically driven company in a cutting-edge sector.
Hands-on mentoring and career progression: move from small project estimator to leading large tenders.
Exposure to high-value projects in data centres, pharma, industrial infrastructure, and building services.
A role that combines technical knowledge with commercial insight — building your expertise and your career.
A supportive, multi-disciplinary team with strong connections to global manufacturing, R&D, and supply networks.
