Access Talent Group is currently recruiting for a SME in the West midlands who are looking to experienced Flood Modelling / Hydrology professional to help grow out a new work stream within the Water Environmental sector.

Our client is a leading engineering consultancy firm specializing in delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across Civil and structural engineering projects who are looking for a professional to be the centre piece for a developing Flood Risk modelling and hydrology discipline. Current work is being outsources and you will be coming into lead current FRA and Flood modelling projects whilst having the ability to grow a team and develop business within the wider hydrology sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Lead and oversee the delivery of hydrological and hydraulic modeling projects, ensuring high technical standards.
  • Flood Risk Assessment: Develop and implement flood risk management strategies, including flood mapping, mitigation design, and emergency response planning.
  • Model Development: Utilize and refine advanced hydrological and hydraulic models (e.g., HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, MIKE FLOOD, InfoWorks and Flood modeller pro) to simulate flood scenarios and provide actionable insights.
  • Project Management: Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources while maintaining strong client relationships and delivering results that meet or exceed expectations.
  • Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with private developers, and community stakeholders to address flood management issues and promote sustainable solutions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure projects comply with local, regional, and national regulations and standards related to flood risk management.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in flood modeling, hydrology, and water resources engineering, with a strong record of project leadership.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard modeling tools such as HEC-RAS (1D/2D), TUFLOW, MIKE FLOOD, InfoWorks, Flood Modeller or similar.
  • Solid understanding of hydrological processes, river systems, and urban drainage systems.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience with proposals, budgets, and client interaction.
  • Knowledge of local and international flood risk regulations, policies, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Professional registration or chartered status (CIWEM or CEng) is highly desirable.
