.An opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Ecologist or Principal Ecologist to join a growing environmental consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering ecology services across a wide variety of planning and development projects.

This role offers the chance to work on a diverse project portfolio, supporting clients through the planning process by delivering ecological surveys, assessments, technical reporting, and environmental advice. You'll join a supportive and knowledgeable team, with opportunities to develop your technical expertise, manage projects, and contribute to the growth of the ecology function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake and lead ecological surveys, including habitat and protected species surveys.
  • Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs)
  • Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs)
  • Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments
  • Mitigation and management strategies
  • Provide technical advice on ecology, biodiversity, and environmental legislation.
  • Manage projects from proposal stage through to completion.
  • Liaise with clients, planning authorities, consultees, and project teams.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the ecology team.
  • Attend site visits and stakeholder meetings as required.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of legislation, policy, and industry guidance.

Requirements

  • Degree or Master's qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science, Zoology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working at Senior or Principal Ecologist level
  • Strong knowledge of UK habitats, protected species, and ecological legislation.
  • Proven experience preparing technical reports independently.
  • Background in planning, development, infrastructure, or environmental consultancy projects.
  • Membership of CIEEM or a similar professional body.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong ecological survey and assessment experience.

Salary & Benefits
