.An opportunity has become available for an experienced Senior Ecologist or Principal Ecologist to join a growing environmental consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering ecology services across a wide variety of planning and development projects.
This role offers the chance to work on a diverse project portfolio, supporting clients through the planning process by delivering ecological surveys, assessments, technical reporting, and environmental advice. You'll join a supportive and knowledgeable team, with opportunities to develop your technical expertise, manage projects, and contribute to the growth of the ecology function.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake and lead ecological surveys, including habitat and protected species surveys.
- Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs)
- Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs)
- Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments
- Mitigation and management strategies
- Provide technical advice on ecology, biodiversity, and environmental legislation.
- Manage projects from proposal stage through to completion.
- Liaise with clients, planning authorities, consultees, and project teams.
- Support and mentor junior members of the ecology team.
- Attend site visits and stakeholder meetings as required.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of legislation, policy, and industry guidance.
Requirements
- Degree or Master's qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science, Zoology, or a related discipline.
- Experience working at Senior or Principal Ecologist level
- Strong knowledge of UK habitats, protected species, and ecological legislation.
- Proven experience preparing technical reports independently.
- Background in planning, development, infrastructure, or environmental consultancy projects.
- Membership of CIEEM or a similar professional body.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong ecological survey and assessment experience.
Salary & Benefits
