A leading water engineering and network resilience team is seeking an experienced Water Surge Modeller to support the delivery of high-impact projects for major UK water utilities. This role is ideal for someone with advanced technical knowledge in transient analysis and hydraulic network modelling, who is keen to help protect and optimise clean and waste water infrastructure systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of surge and transient modelling assignments for clean water distribution and trunk network systems.
  • Carry out detailed analysis of operational events such as pump start/stop sequences, valve operations, and system reconfigurations to identify vulnerabilities and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with hydraulic modellers, asset planners and operational engineers to embed surge analysis into wider network optimisation and capital investment planning.
  • Review and interpret SCADA and telemetry datasets to validate model performance and diagnose transient behaviour.
  • Develop surge mitigation strategies and contribute to the specification of assets such as air valves, surge vessels and control philosophies.
  • Produce clear technical reports, presentations, and supporting documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior team members and support capability development across the discipline.

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in transient/surge modelling within the clean water sector.
  • Strong understanding of clean water network hydraulics, operational characteristics, and asset behaviour.
  • Familiarity with pressure transient effects (water hammer) and mitigation solutions.
  • Competent in hydraulic modelling software platforms (e.g., Bentley HAMMER or equivalent).
  • Ability to interpret SCADA/telemetry data to support model calibration and operational analysis.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to present technical insight to project teams and stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to work on nationally significant water resilience projects.
  • Collaborative environment focused on technical excellence and innovation.
  • Professional development and progression supported.
  • Fully remote working
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
  • Competitive salary and pension package.
