Role Overview
As an Adoption Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving adoption of new digital tools, processes, and systems across our business units (highways, environment, consultancy, etc.). Your mission will be to ensure that technology and process changes are embedded effectively, maximising benefits in terms of efficiency, safety, quality, and social value.
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management
- Work with department heads, project managers, and frontline teams to understand current workflows and pain points.
- Develop adoption strategies for new digital platforms (e.g. asset-management systems, mobile reporting tools), ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Run training sessions, workshops, and drop-in clinics for staff to build awareness, capability, and confidence in new tools.
Technical Implementation Support
- Assist with configuration, testing, and rollout of new systems; act as the liaison between IT / vendor teams and operational staff.
- Monitor adoption metrics (usage, engagement, error rates) and iterate plans based on feedback.
- Troubleshoot adoption issues, providing hands-on support and escalating as needed.
Process Optimisation
- Map existing business processes (e.g., highway maintenance scheduling, incident reporting, vegetation management) and identify opportunities for digital enhancement.
- Help redesign workflows to take advantage of new capabilities (automation, data analytics, mobile input).
- Document and standardise processes, creating playbooks, SOPs, and training materials.
Continuous Improvement & Feedback Loop
- Collect feedback from users (engineers, operatives, managers) and feed it back into development cycles.
- Work with the leadership team to prioritise further enhancements based on business impact.
- Promote and evangelise best practices, helping embed a culture of innovation and digital-first thinking.
Change Impact Measurement
- Define and track KPIs relating to adoption (e.g., % of users onboarded, error reduction, time savings).
- Prepare regular reports, presentations, and dashboards for senior leadership.
- Measure business value delivered (efficiency gains, cost savings, safety improvements, social value).
Skills & Experience
- Experience in a change management, business adoption, or IT implementation role — ideally in a technical or engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of digital tools (asset management systems, mobile apps, CRM, reporting tools) and the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and training skills, comfortable running workshops and providing hands-on coaching.
- Analytical mindset: able to define adoption KPIs, monitor progress, and drive data-informed decisions.
- Project management experience, ideally with exposure to delivering change into operational teams.
- Knowledge of civil engineering, highways, or environmental services is a significant plus but not strictly required.
- Resilient, proactive, and highly organized.
