Principal Ecologist / Head of Ecology (remote)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Ecologist / Head of Ecology to join a growing ecological consultancy with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality ecological and ornithological services across the UK.
This is a predominantly home-based role offering genuine flexibility, autonomy and the opportunity to play a key role in leading project delivery, supporting a team of ecologists and helping to shape the future growth of the business. The consultancy works across a diverse range of sectors and habitats, delivering hundreds of projects each year.
As Principal Ecologist / Head of Ecology, you will oversee ecological projects from inception to completion, provide technical review and quality assurance, mentor and support colleagues, liaise with clients and stakeholders, and help maintain high technical standards across the business. You will also contribute to business development and support the continued growth of the consultancy.
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Significant experience within ecological consultancy.
- A strong track record of managing ecological projects.
- Excellent report writing, technical review and project management skills.
- Sound knowledge of UK ecological legislation, planning policy and survey methodologies.
- Experience supporting or managing other ecologists.
- Membership of CIEEM or another relevant professional body.
The following would be advantageous:
- Protected species licences.
- Biodiversity Net Gain experience.
- UKHab and habitat assessment experience.
A competitive salary of £46,000–£61,000 is available, depending on experience, alongside flexible home-based working, ongoing professional development and the opportunity to take on a senior leadership role within a respected and expanding ecological consultancy.
