As a Principal Environmental Consultant, you will play a critical leadership role in managing and delivering complex environmental projects, developing client relationships, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to strategic growth.
You will be responsible for ensuring technical excellence, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the delivery of EIA, SEA, and other environmental assessments for infrastructure, energy, and planning projects.
- Provide high-level technical input, peer review, and quality control of environmental reports and assessments.
- Develop and manage client relationships, including business development and proposal preparation.
- Act as Project Director or Technical Lead on multidisciplinary projects.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and stakeholders on environmental issues.
- Mentor and manage junior and mid-level consultants.
- Contribute to the strategic direction and operational growth of the environmental consultancy team in Ireland.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering, or a related discipline (Master’s or Chartered status desirable).
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in environmental consultancy, ideally within Ireland or the UK.
- Demonstrated leadership in delivering complex EIA/SEA projects.
- Strong knowledge of Irish and EU environmental legislation and planning processes.
- Excellent project management and client relationship skills.
- Strong commercial acumen and experience in winning work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable:
- Chartered Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIWEM, IEMA, IEEM).
- Experience with climate change risk assessments, ESG advisory, or biodiversity net gain.
- Network of contacts in relevant sectors (transport, energy, planning, etc.).
