ATG are currently seeking a qualified and passionate Botanist to join their team and contribute to a wide range of ecological projects across Ireland.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting botanical surveys, habitat assessments, and ecological impact assessments. This role requires a strong understanding of Irish flora and habitat types, excellent fieldwork skills, and the ability to communicate ecological insights to a broad audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out botanical and habitat surveys (e.g., Phase 1, Fossitt, National Vegetation Classification).
- Identify vascular plant species and assess habitat quality using established methodologies.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, including baseline surveys, ecological impact assessments (EcIA), and conservation management plans.
- Contribute to the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs) and Appropriate Assessments (AA).
- Liaise with clients, statutory bodies, and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
- Assist in developing and implementing ecological mitigation and enhancement strategies.
- Maintain accurate field data and contribute to GIS mapping and spatial analysis.
- Support junior staff through mentoring and training in botanical techniques and survey protocols.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within Ireland.
- Strong field identification skills for Irish and UK flora.
- Familiarity with Irish habitats and relevant legislation (e.g., Habitats Directive, Wildlife Act).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GIS software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) is an advantage.
- Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
Desirable
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM, BSBI).
- Experience with bryophytes, lichens, or aquatic plants.
- Understanding of ecological restoration and habitat management techniques.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis or ecological modelling tools.
