As a Botanist, you will play a key role in the study and management of plant species, ecosystems, and plant-based solutions for a range of commercial and conservation projects. You will conduct field research, analyse plant data, support environmental assessments, and contribute to sustainable development initiatives across Ireland and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct fieldwork to identify, catalogue, and monitor plant species.
  • Analyse ecological data and produce detailed reports on vegetation, habitats, and biodiversity.
  • Support environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and habitat restoration plans.
  • Collaborate with ecologists, soil scientists, and environmental engineers.
  • Maintain herbarium collections and manage plant databases.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Advise on plant conservation, invasive species control, and sustainable land use practices.
  • Engage with stakeholders including government agencies, NGOs, and the public.

Requirements

Essential:

  • BSc or MSc in Botany, Plant Science, Ecology, or a related field.
  • Proven field research experience and plant identification skills (native Irish and European flora).
  • Strong understanding of plant ecology, taxonomy, and conservation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with GIS and botanical survey tools.
  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.

Desirable:

  • PhD in a related field.
  • Experience working on environmental assessments in Ireland.
  • Familiarity with EU Habitats Directive and Irish biodiversity legislation.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM, BSBI).
