Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Derby (Hybrid – Site, Regional Office in Birmingham & Home)

Our client is a leading construction company offering Development, Building, and Maintenance services across the UK. With a turnover exceeding £200m and three regional offices, they have a strong presence in the industry, delivering high-quality projects across the commercial sector.

About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the Property Services division. The role will involve working on a variety of commercial build projects, including both new build and refurbishment schemes valued between £250k and £10m. This is a hybrid role, based primarily in Derby, with flexibility to work from site, our regional office in Birmingham, and home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing cost control, cost planning, and cost reporting for projects
  • Preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and carrying out valuations
  • Monitoring project budgets and ensuring financial efficiency
  • Overseeing subcontractor accounts, variations, and final accounts
  • Preparing and submitting interim and final payment applications
  • Conducting risk analysis and value engineering assessments
  • Supporting procurement and contract negotiations
  • Working closely with project managers and site teams to deliver cost-effective solutions

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor
  • Background in commercial building projects (new build & refurbishment)
  • Strong understanding of cost management, cost planning, and BOQ preparation
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software and contract management
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a hybrid work environment
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field
