Job Title: Business Development ManagerOverview
A dynamic and experienced Business Development Manager (BDM) is required to support growth within a multi-faceted construction consultancy environment. The ideal candidate will have experience developing new opportunities, expanding market presence, building strong client relationships, and delivering strategic plans to achieve revenue targets. This role involves close collaboration with internal teams and requires both commercial awareness and strong communication skills.
Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify New Opportunities
Research and identify potential growth sectors and viable revenue streams across consultancy services such as Architecture, Design Certifier, Assigned Certifier, PSDP, Quantity Surveying, and Fire Engineering.
Lead Generation
Proactively pursue new business through market research, networking, and cold calling.
Proposal & Presentation Development
Prepare and deliver high-quality proposals and presentations to pitch services to prospective clients.
Client Relationship Management
Build, maintain, and nurture key client relationships to maximise account potential.
Negotiate with stakeholders to secure new business and ensure client satisfaction and repeat engagements.
Market Awareness
Stay informed on industry developments, competitor positioning, and market trends to support strategic business planning.
Internal Collaboration
Work closely with all internal teams, including the tendering team, to support coordinated business development efforts.
Skills & Qualifications
Relevant third-level qualification preferred, ideally in Architecture or Engineering.
3–7 years' experience in sales, business development, or account management, with a strong record of meeting sales targets.
Training or certification in bid/proposal writing (e.g., APMP) is an advantage.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and self-motivation.
Proficiency with IT systems, CRM tools, reporting, and lead tracking.
Strong commercial awareness and analytical skills.
Experience working in a fast-paced office environment.
Familiarity with architectural roles and related consultancy services.
Knowledge of public-sector procurement platforms such as eTenders.
Understanding of bid processes and best practices in proposal development.
Career Progression
A Business Development Manager can progress to Senior BDM, Business Development Director, or transition into related fields such as marketing, consultancy, or business analysis. Exceptional performance can lead to senior executive roles, including CEO level positions.
