Job Purpose:
The Electrical Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing all costs related to electrical engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. You will ensure that project costs are carefully managed, and ensure that value for money is achieved while meeting all quality and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation & Budgeting:
Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for electrical installations and services.Create and manage project budgets, forecasting financial outcomes to minimize risks.
Tendering & Contract Negotiation:
Prepare and issue tender documents, analyze submissions, and recommend awards to contractors or suppliers.Negotiate contracts and secure favorable terms for the company.
Financial Management:
Monitor project expenditure and ensure it remains within budget.Prepare monthly valuation reports, including cost forecasting and cash flow projections.Administer payments to contractors and suppliers in line with contract terms.
Cost Control & Value Engineering:
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising project quality or safety.Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to implement cost control measures.
Variation & Change Management:
Assess and agree on the value of variations and additional works.Prepare change orders and manage the financial impact of scope changes.
Risk Management:
Identify potential risks and work on mitigating these risks to protect project margins.
Reporting:
Prepare and present reports on project performance, including cost, value, progress, and any variations.Ensure accurate and up-to-date records are kept on all financial aspects of projects.
Compliance & Contract Administration:
Ensure all works comply with regulatory and contractual obligations.Assist in the resolution of contractual disputes.
Skills & Experience:
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, SCSI) is preferred.
Experience:
3+ years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the electrical contracting industry or a related field.Proven experience in managing large-scale electrical projects is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of electrical installations and systems.Proficiency in cost estimation and tendering software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, or similar).Strong understanding of contract law and construction regulations.
Soft Skills:
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.Attention to detail and a proactive approach to managing costs.
