ATG are seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental Hydrologist to join a growing team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the assessment, modelling, and management of surface water and groundwater systems for a range of projects across Ireland and internationally.

You will be involved in hydrological modelling, flood risk assessments, catchment studies, environmental impact assessments, and water resource planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct hydrological and hydrogeological assessments to support planning and environmental permitting.
  • Perform catchment analysis, flood risk modelling (e.g. using HEC-RAS, MIKE, InfoWorks, etc.), and climate resilience assessments.
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret hydrometric, meteorological, and GIS data.
  • Prepare technical reports including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs), and Water Framework Directive compliance reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including ecologists, engineers, and planners.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical input into project proposals and tender documents.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in water resource management.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in a hydrology or environmental consultancy role.
  • Strong understanding of Irish and EU water and environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency with hydrological and hydraulic modelling tools (e.g., HEC-RAS, MIKE SHE/MIKE 11, Flood Modeller, SWMM).
  • GIS competency (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification (MSc/PhD) in Hydrology or Water Resources.
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership (e.g., CIWEM, Engineers Ireland, IEMA).
  • Experience with Python/R or data analysis tools for hydrological data.
  • Familiarity with groundwater assessments and hydrogeological mapping.
