The Senior Ecologist will play a key role in managing and delivering ecological input into projects across a variety of sectors. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with excellent technical skills, leadership qualities, and a passion for high-quality ecological consultancy to take a senior position within a supportive and ambitious team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead ecological assessments for infrastructure, planning, and development projects, including EIARs, NISs, and ecological impact assessments.
  • Design and oversee habitat and species surveys in accordance with best practice and legislation (e.g., bats, birds, badgers, amphibians, etc.).
  • Provide expert ecological advice to clients, design teams, and statutory bodies.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and liaise with regulatory authorities such as NPWS, planning departments, and other consultants.
  • Manage projects from inception to completion, including scoping, resourcing, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Mentor and supervise junior ecologists, ensuring delivery to a high technical and professional standard.
  • Support business development by preparing proposals, tender submissions, and attending industry events.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ecological legislation, policy, and guidance in Ireland and the EU.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline (MSc or higher preferred).
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in ecological consultancy or similar role.
  • Proven experience in habitat and protected species surveys (ideally with QI species or habitats).
  • Strong project management skills, including budget and time management.
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and client liaison skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Irish and EU wildlife legislation and environmental policy.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel between project sites and offices.

Desirable:

  • Full or Associate Membership of CIEEM or equivalent professional body.
  • Bat licence or other relevant NPWS derogation licences.
  • GIS and data analysis skills.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary project teams.
