Our client is a small, well-established British design and build contractor specialising in geotechnical engineering solutions, with a particular focus on retaining walls and foundation systems for infrastructure projects. With a close-knit team of around a dozen professionals, they deliver technically robust and practical engineering solutions while maintaining a genuine family-feel culture. This business offers an excellent alternative to large corporate consultancies or contractors, providing engineers with real visibility and ownership over their work.

We are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer with around five years of experience who enjoys a balanced role between design and site involvement. The position will involve undertaking geotechnical design and analysis, supporting project delivery, and actively engaging in site visits, client meetings, and construction supervision to see projects through from concept to completion. Based around the Birmingham area, you will play a hands-on role in both the technical and practical aspects of geotechnical engineering across a range of infrastructure schemes.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Around 5 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering.

  • Strong design and analysis capability in retaining walls, foundations, or related geotechnical systems.

  • Experience working on infrastructure projects.

  • Enjoyment of site-based work, including supervision and client interaction.

  • Ability to commute to the Birmingham area several days per week.

  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, hands-on approach.

  • Experience working within a contractor or design-and-build environment is advantageous.

In return, our client offers the opportunity to join a friendly, supportive, and technically focused business where your work will have real impact and visibility. You’ll benefit from a competitive salary and benefits package, regular site exposure, and the chance to work closely with senior engineers in a collaborative environment. If you’re looking for a move away from large corporate organisations and want to be part of a family-feel team delivering high-quality geotechnical solutions, we encourage you to apply today.
