The Role

As Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the mechanical engineering design across a portfolio of data centre projects. You will manage the detailed design of critical systems such as cooling, ventilation, fire suppression, and other HVAC components, ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and best practices.

You will mentor junior engineers, liaise with multidisciplinary teams, and work closely with project managers to deliver projects on time and within budget

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering design for data centre projects, covering cooling systems, chilled water plant, air handling, ventilation, and fire suppression.
  • Develop and review design calculations, specifications, and detailed drawings.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, structural, and architectural teams to ensure integrated solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers, fostering professional growth and technical excellence.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and suppliers to resolve design and technical queries.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards (e.g., ASHRAE, Uptime Institute), and sustainability requirements.
  • Support project managers in planning, risk management, and quality assurance processes.

About You

  • Degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer with Chartered status (CEng, PE, or equivalent preferred).
  • 8+ years of mechanical design experience, with at least 4 years focused on data centre or mission-critical HVAC systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge of cooling plant design, air distribution, chilled water systems, and fire suppression.
  • Proficient in mechanical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar BIM tools.
  • Experience with design standards relevant to data centres (e.g., ASHRAE TC9.9, Uptime Institute Tier Standards).
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, capable of managing and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex projects within schedule and budget constraints.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary with performance incentives.
  • Flexible working arrangements tailored to individual and project needs.
  • Professional development and training opportunities.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge data centre projects with global industry leaders.
  • Collaborative, innovative, and supportive work environment.
