We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Transport Planner to join our high-performing Development Planning team within one of the world’s leading consultancy organisations. This is a unique opportunity to work on some of the most transformative infrastructure and development projects across the UK and internationally.

As a Principal-level consultant, you will take a leading role in shaping sustainable, accessible, and innovative transport solutions that support development and regeneration schemes for both public and private sector clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Manage and lead the delivery of transport planning projects from inception through to delivery, including Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and feasibility studies.
  • Project Management: Oversee project scope, budget, and timeline, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables to clients.
  • Client Engagement: Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a key point of contact and providing strategic transport advice.
  • Team Development: Mentor and support junior staff, contributing to team knowledge sharing and technical excellence.
  • Business Development: Assist with or lead on bids, proposals, and work-winning strategies to grow our development planning portfolio.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside multi-disciplinary teams including urban designers, environmental specialists, and engineers to integrate transport strategies into broader development plans.

About You

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Degree-qualified in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in development-led transport planning within a consultancy or public sector setting.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Junctions 9 (ARCADY, PICADY), LinSig, and GIS; familiarity with VISSIM or PARAMICS advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of relevant policy, guidance, and planning processes (e.g. NPPF, LTN 1/20).
  • Demonstrable success in client-facing roles and managing multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing technical reports and presentations.

Desirable:

  • Chartered status (e.g. MCIHT, TPP) or working toward it.
  • Experience delivering or supporting major planning applications, DCOs, or large-scale regeneration schemes.
