Our multidisciplinary team works on a diverse range of projects across Ireland and the UK, supporting clients in infrastructure, renewable energy, planning, and conservation sectors.

As part of their growth, ATG are seeking a Senior Ecologist to lead complex ecological assessments, mentor junior team members, and help deliver high-quality environmental solutions that make a real difference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate ecological surveys, assessments, and reporting across a range of project types.
  • Manage project delivery from concept to completion, including client liaison, budgeting, and quality assurance.
  • Prepare and review ecological reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Appropriate Assessments (AA/NIS), Biodiversity Management Plans, and input to Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs).
  • Provide expert ecological advice to clients, project teams, and statutory bodies.
  • Mentor and support junior ecologists in survey techniques, report writing, and career development.
  • Contribute to business development, including proposal preparation and client relationship management.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation, best practice, and health & safety standards.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Zoology, Botany, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–7 years’ relevant post-graduate experience in ecological consultancy or a similar field.
  • Strong understanding of Irish and EU wildlife legislation, policy, and guidance.
  • Proven experience in delivering EcIAs, AAs/NISs, and ecological inputs to planning applications.
  • Proficiency in ecological survey methods (e.g. habitat mapping, protected species surveys).
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and project management skills.
  • Full, clean driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.

Desirable Skills

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Ecologist or progressing toward Chartered status (CIEEM, IEEM, etc.).
  • Experience with GIS mapping and spatial data management.
  • Specialist expertise in one or more areas (e.g. ornithology, bat ecology, botany, freshwater ecology).
  • Experience working on renewable energy, transport, or infrastructure projects.
