The Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for planning, executing, and interpreting geotechnical investigations, providing technical expertise for a range of civil engineering projects, and ensuring designs meet both client expectations and industry standards. This is an exciting opportunity to work on landmark projects within transport, renewable energy, urban development, and environmental engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage, and oversee geotechnical site investigations, including borehole drilling, sampling, in-situ testing, and laboratory testing.
- Analyse soil, rock, and groundwater data to develop geotechnical models and inform design recommendations.
- Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, design calculations, and construction specifications.
- Provide geotechnical input for foundation design, slope stability assessments, retaining structures, earthworks, and ground improvement methods.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities, ensuring projects meet technical, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating with structural, civil, and environmental engineers.
- Monitor construction works to ensure compliance with geotechnical design and specification.
- Keep up to date with industry trends, standards, and best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s degree desirable).
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant geotechnical engineering experience (5+ years for senior-level roles).
- Proven experience in ground investigation planning, design, and supervision.
- Strong knowledge of Eurocode 7 and relevant Irish/UK geotechnical standards.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, Slope/W, GeoStudio, HoleBASE, gINT).
- Excellent report writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Full clean driving licence (site travel required).
Desirable Skills
- Experience in offshore geotechnics or renewable energy projects.
- Understanding of environmental considerations in ground engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
