Our client is a well-established independent transport planning consultancy that provides professional transport planning and assessment services for private-sector development projects across the UK. They are now seeking a motivated Graduate Transport Planner with approximately two years of consultancy experience to join their growing team.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their career within a small, supportive team environment. You’ll gain hands-on experience, exposure to a variety of development projects, and direct client engagement while continuing to build your technical and project management skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the preparation of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans for planning applications.
  • Undertake traffic surveys, analyse and interpret data, and prepare clear and concise technical reports.
  • Assist in junction capacity modelling and analysis using tools such as ARCADY, PICADY, or LinSig (training provided if needed).
  • Use databases such as TRICS to support trip generation and distribution analysis.
  • Support senior consultants with client communication, planning submissions, and liaison with local authorities.
  • Participate in feasibility studies and provide transport planning advice for new development sites.
  • Work collaboratively within a small consultancy team while managing individual project tasks and deadlines.

Candidate requirementsEssential:

  • A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline.
  • Around 2 years’ experience in a transport planning consultancy — ideally with a focus on private-sector development work.
  • Experience preparing reports for planning submissions and analysing transport data.
  • Good understanding of UK planning processes and development transport issues.
  • Proficiency with TRICS and MS Office (Excel in particular).
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
  • Eligible to work in the UK (essential requirement).

Desirable:

  • Experience with junction modelling software (ARCADY, PICADY, LinSig).
  • Working knowledge of GIS or AutoCAD.
  • Membership or progression towards professional accreditation (MCIHT, CILT, TPS, or similar).
  • Understanding of sustainable transport and travel planning initiatives.
