ATG are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Ground Investigation Engineer to join a expanding geotechnical team in Belfast. You will play a key role in the planning, execution, and reporting of ground investigations across a variety of sectors including infrastructure, construction, utilities, and environmental projects.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Plan, supervise, and execute site investigations including drilling, trial pitting, sampling, and in-situ testing.
  • Produce accurate and detailed site investigation logs, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and local authorities to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Oversee health, safety, and environmental aspects of ground investigation works in accordance with CDM Regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of factual and interpretative geotechnical reports.
  • Coordinate laboratory testing and interpret test results.
  • Support junior engineers and technicians on-site and in office-based tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (BS5930, Eurocode 7) and company procedures.

 

Requirements:

Essential:

 

  • Degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in ground investigation or geotechnical site work.
  • Good understanding of soil and rock logging to BS5930.
  • Valid CSCS card (or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence.

 

Desirable:

 

  • Membership or working toward chartership with a relevant professional body (e.g. ICE, GeolSoc).
  • First Aid and SMSTS/SSSTS certification.
  • Experience with geotechnical software (e.g. HoleBASE, gINT, GeoStudio).
