ATG are working with a leading engineering consultancy in Ireland, providing innovative and sustainable infrastructure solutions across the water, environment, and civil sectors. Their team delivers critical projects nationwide in partnership with public and private sector clients.
As they continue to grow, they are seeking a Hydraulic Structures Engineer to join an expanding water and flood risk management team.
Role Overview:
The successful candidate will be involved in the design, assessment, and rehabilitation of hydraulic structures such as culverts, bridges, weirs, flood defences, pumping stations, and retaining walls. The role will include working on multi-disciplinary projects from feasibility through to detailed design and construction supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and assessment of hydraulic structures (bridges, culverts, outfalls, sluices, headwalls, spillways, etc.)
- Lead and contribute to the production of drawings, specifications, reports, and tender documents
- Undertake structural assessments in accordance with Eurocodes and other relevant standards
- Support hydrological and hydraulic modelling tasks to inform structural design
- Carry out site inspections and condition surveys
- Engage with clients, stakeholders, and contractors
- Provide technical input to multi-disciplinary project teams
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team
Requirements
Essential:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 4+ years’ experience in the design and delivery of hydraulic structures
- Chartered or working towards Chartership (e.g., with Engineers Ireland or ICE)
- Strong knowledge of relevant design codes (Eurocodes, CIRIA, NRA/Transport Infrastructure Ireland standards, OPW guidelines)
- Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., Robot, MIDAS, STAAD, etc.)
- Excellent report writing, communication, and team-working skills
- Right to work in Ireland
Desirable:
- Experience with flood risk management and drainage projects
- Familiarity with hydraulic modelling tools (HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, InfoWorks ICM)
- Experience working with public sector clients such as OPW, Irish Water, or local authorities
- Project management or client-facing experience
