We are working with a highly respected infrastructure consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Bridge Engineer to take a leading role within their established bridges and civil structures team in London. This position offers the opportunity to influence major transport programmes, lead a talented technical team, and shape the delivery of some of the UK’s most significant bridge and highway structure projects.
The Role
As Principal Bridge Engineer, you will act as a technical lead on complex structural schemes, providing oversight across design development, assessment, strengthening, inspection, and delivery. You’ll work closely with project directors, clients, and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring technical excellence and robust engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage bridge design, assessment, and refurbishment projects from concept to delivery.
- Provide technical leadership to engineers and technicians across multiple workstreams.
- Undertake and review structural analysis, design calculations, and technical reports.
- Oversee project governance, risk management, resource planning, and quality assurance.
- Mentor and support the development of junior engineers within the team.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders, representing the business at a senior level.
- Ensure projects meet industry standards, client expectations, and safety requirements.
About You
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or close to achieving chartership.
- Extensive experience in bridge engineering—highways, rail, or major infrastructure.
- Strong background in structural analysis and design using UK standards and Eurocodes.
- Proven leadership capability within project or technical teams.
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Passionate about high-quality engineering and innovation in structural design.
