Our client is a boutique-sized maritime civil engineering consultancy based on the South Coast, operating as a fast-growing specialist within the marine infrastructure sector. With a team of around 15 engineers spread across two offices, they work internationally across marinas, harbours, ports, and waterfront infrastructure projects. Known for their technical depth, agility, and collaborative culture, they offer a rare opportunity to join a small but ambitious consultancy where senior hires have a genuine influence on technical direction and business growth.
We are seeking a Principal Maritime Engineer to take a leading role in shaping and expanding the consultancy’s marine capability. This position will involve leading engineering design, technical delivery, and client-facing activities across a diverse portfolio of coastal and maritime projects. You will be responsible for driving technical quality, mentoring junior engineers, supporting marine licensing and consent processes, and contributing to environmental and sustainability-led design approaches. As a senior figure in the business, you will also help steer best practice, support management systems, and play a key role in the continued growth of the consultancy.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Extensive experience in maritime civil engineering design and delivery.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage project delivery.
- Experience leading or supporting MMO licence applications and marine consents.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and guidance (CDM, BS6349, Eurocodes, PIANC).
- Experience contributing to environmental assessments and sustainable design solutions.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001-aligned management systems and EMS activities.
- Strong client-facing skills and the ability to develop long-term client relationships.
