Our client is a respected building consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects across the built environment. With a growing portfolio of work within the rail sector, they are seeking an experienced Rail Estimator to join their team and support continued expansion.
Role Overview
As a Rail Estimator, you will play a key role in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of rail projects. Working closely with project managers, design teams, and stakeholders, you will ensure all bids and tenders are commercially viable and aligned with client requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for rail infrastructure projects, including civils, stations, track, and associated works.
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and contract documents to produce accurate take-offs and pricing.
- Work with supply chain partners to obtain competitive quotations and manage subcontractor pricing.
- Support bid submissions, tenders, and proposals with robust commercial data.
- Monitor and update cost databases, market rates, and benchmarking information.
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to provide estimating support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify potential risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions within project estimates.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as an Estimator, ideally within the rail or wider infrastructure sector.
- Strong knowledge of rail construction processes, standards, and cost drivers.
- Proficient in using estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of tendering processes.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and work to tight deadlines.
- Relevant qualifications in construction, quantity surveying, or engineering (desirable).
