About the Project

Our client is delivering a flagship Active Travel project in Dublin, focused on improving sustainable mobility infrastructure, including walking, cycling, and public realm upgrades. This is a high-profile scheme with significant community, environmental, and transport benefits.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Resident Engineer (RE) to oversee construction activities, ensure compliance with contract documents, and provide technical leadership throughout delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Resident Engineer on site, administering the works under the Public Works Contract (PW-CF).
  • Monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with design drawings, specifications, and statutory requirements.
  • Supervise the construction of active travel infrastructure including cycleways, footpaths, junction upgrades, pedestrian facilities, and associated civil works.
  • Manage and coordinate site inspections, quality checks, and audits.
  • Liaise with the Employer’s Representative, design team, local authority staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress, site meetings, and contractual communications.
  • Monitor health & safety compliance in accordance with Construction Regulations and project safety plans.
  • Review and certify interim payments, claims, and variations.
  • Mentor and support Assistant Resident Engineers and Site Inspectors.
  • Prepare and submit progress reports, technical notes, and recommendations.

Candidate Requirements

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with Engineers Ireland (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years’ postgraduate experience, with at least 5 years in a Resident Engineer or similar supervisory role.
  • Proven track record delivering road, public realm, or active travel projects in an urban environment.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering, utilities coordination, drainage, pavements, and traffic management.
  • Thorough understanding of Public Works Contracts (PWC) and associated administration.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage contractor performance and resolve site issues proactively.
  • Familiarity with Health & Safety legislation and role of PSDP/PSCS.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with cycle network / sustainable transport infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of green infrastructure, climate resilience, and placemaking design principles.
  • Strong IT skills (MS Office, Project, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Previous work with Dublin City Council or Irish local authority projects advantageous.
