A top M&E consultancy in Dublin is expanding its Energy Infrastructure team and is looking to appoint an experienced Senior High Voltage Engineer with a strong background in HV electrical engineering.
This is a senior technical opportunity supporting the design and delivery of major HV and MV infrastructure projects across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
The successful candidate will work across a range of complex energy infrastructure projects, including substations, energy centres, grid connection infrastructure, landing stations, interconnectors and associated HV systems.
The position combines technical leadership, project delivery, client engagement and team development, with the opportunity to play a key role in developing and growing an in-house HV engineering capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical delivery of HV and MV infrastructure projects.
- Work on AIS and GIS substations, grid connection infrastructure, landing stations, interconnectors and associated HV systems.
- Develop and review:
- Single line diagrams (SLDs)
- Substation layouts
- Protection and control philosophies
- HV cable systems
- Earthing and lightning protection systems
- Secondary systems and auxiliary power systems
Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, external consultants and specialist subcontractors.Manage technical interfaces with clients, utilities, TSOs, DSOs, contractors and OEMs.Support the development of technical standards, procedures and internal engineering processes.Assist with the recruitment, mentoring and development of engineers within the HV team.Review technical studies and contribute to key engineering and design decisions.Support studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, harmonics, power quality and earthing.Provide technical input into tenders, bids, project planning and design reviews.Attend client meetings, workshops, site inspections and commissioning activities where required.Take ownership of technical deliverables while ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard.
Requirements
Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline.Typically 8+ years' experience within HV/MV electrical engineering.Strong experience delivering HV substation and energy infrastructure projects.Experience with HV substations up to 400kV is highly desirable.Practical experience with AIS and/or GIS substations.Experience working on grid connection infrastructure, HV cables and auxiliary systems.Strong understanding of primary and secondary substation systems.Knowledge of protection and control systems, earthing and lightning protection.Understanding of utility, TSO and DSO interface requirements.Experience working within consultancy, utility, energy infrastructure or industrial power environments.Previous experience coordinating engineering teams, consultants or specialist subcontractors is advantageous.Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership is desirable but not essential.
Technical Skills
- The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of:
- IEC, BS, EN and IS standards.HV design principles and substation engineering.Grid connection requirements and utility standards.Protection and control systems.Primary and secondary electrical systems.Grid-forming and grid-following technologies.
- Experience with the following software would be beneficial:
- AutoCADETAPDIgSILENT PowerFactoryPSCAD
- Strong technical report writing, specification preparation and client communication skills are also required.
