We are working with a dynamic and well-established civil engineering consultancy based in Southampton, renowned for delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across the infrastructure, development, and environmental sectors. Our reputation is built on technical excellence, long-standing client relationships, and a passion for shaping resilient, future-proof communities.

Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, they are seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Civil Engineer with strong drainage design expertise to join their friendly and collaborative team.

The Role

As a key technical lead in our Civil Engineering team, you will play a vital role in delivering drainage and infrastructure design solutions across a range of residential, commercial, and public-sector projects. You will contribute both technically and strategically, supporting junior engineers, liaising with clients, and ensuring successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver detailed drainage designs (SuDS, foul and surface water systems)
  • Manage and review hydraulic modelling, flood risk assessments, and drainage strategies
  • Oversee technical reports, specifications, and drawings for planning submissions and construction
  • Mentor and guide junior staff, providing technical oversight and career support
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders to develop strong working relationships
  • Ensure all designs comply with national standards, building regulations, and best practices
  • Contribute to bids and proposals as required

About You Essential:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Chartered or nearing Chartered status (ICE or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in drainage design and infrastructure engineering
  • Strong knowledge of SuDS, UK design standards (e.g., Sewers for Adoption, CIRIA), and local authority approval processes
  • Proficient with industry software (e.g., MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, Civil 3D, AutoCAD)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a consultancy environment
  • Familiarity with flood risk assessments and drainage strategy reports
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary package based on experience
  • Generous holiday allowance + pension + flexible working options
  • Ongoing CPD, training, and professional development
  • Supportive and inclusive team environment
  • Varied and challenging project work across the South and beyond
