Overview
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead all commissioning activities associated with a major high-voltage substation project in Finland. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, coordination, execution and management of commissioning and energisation activities, ensuring all systems are tested, verified and safely handed over to the client.
Working closely with engineering, construction, protection & control, client representatives and subcontractors, the Commissioning Manager will play a key role in delivering the project safely, on schedule and to the highest technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the overall commissioning strategy, programme and execution plan.
- Lead all pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing and energisation activities.
- Coordinate commissioning teams, subcontractors and specialist vendors.
- Ensure all systems are commissioned in accordance with project specifications, grid requirements and industry standards.
- Manage commissioning interfaces between primary plant, protection & control, SCADA, telecommunications and auxiliary systems.
- Review and approve commissioning procedures, method statements and test documentation.
- Coordinate outages, switching programmes and energisation activities with relevant stakeholders.
- Lead daily commissioning meetings and progress reviews.
- Ensure all commissioning records, test results and handover documentation are completed accurately.
- Identify and resolve technical issues during testing and energisation phases.
- Monitor project progress and support the achievement of key project milestones.
- Ensure strict compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements throughout all commissioning activities.
- Support final handover to the client and project close-out activities.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience within HV transmission, substation or power infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience leading commissioning activities on substations ranging from 110kV to 400kV.
- Strong understanding of primary plant, protection & control systems, SCADA and grid connection requirements.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary commissioning teams.
- Strong knowledge of energisation procedures, switching operations and electrical safety practices.
- Ability to manage complex technical interfaces and stakeholder relationships.
- Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
- Fluent English language skills.
Desirable Experience
- Transmission system operator (TSO) projects.
- Renewable energy grid connection projects.
- EPC substation delivery.
- GIS and AIS substation commissioning.
- Nordic utility and transmission infrastructure projects.
- Previous experience working as Lead Commissioning Engineer or Commissioning Manager on large-scale HV projects.
