Commissioning Manager – HV Substations (Finland / Norway)

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Commissioning Manager to join a leading EPC contractor delivering high-voltage substation projects across Finland and Norway. The role will oversee the commissioning and energisation of substations that form part of major hyperscale data centre developments across the Nordics.

This is a site-based position offering a competitive rotation package, long-term project pipeline, and the opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of critical power infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead all commissioning activities for HV substation projects from pre-commissioning through to final energisation and handover.
• Develop and manage commissioning plans, procedures, schedules and test documentation.
• Coordinate commissioning activities with construction, engineering, client representatives and utility operators.
• Ensure all commissioning works are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications.
• Manage commissioning engineers, technicians and specialist subcontractors on site.
• Oversee functional testing of primary and secondary systems including protection, control, SCADA and communication systems.
• Witness and approve factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT) and energisation activities where required.
• Ensure all commissioning documentation, red-line drawings and turnover packs are completed accurately.
• Identify and resolve technical issues during testing and commissioning.
• Ensure compliance with local grid operator requirements, project standards and HSE regulations.
• Support project planning by identifying commissioning risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
• Participate in client meetings, progress reporting and final project handover.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing commissioning activities on HV substation projects.
• Experience commissioning substations from 132kV up to 400kV is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of primary plant, protection & control systems, SCADA and substation automation.
• Experience working on full EPC substation projects.
• Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Strong knowledge of commissioning procedures, electrical testing and energisation processes.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
• Fluent English is essential.
• Previous experience working in Europe or the Nordics is advantageous.
• EU passport or unrestricted right to work in Europe is preferred.
