HV Electrical Engineer (S1 Approved) – Substation Project

Overview

We are seeking an experienced HV Electrical Engineer (S1 Approved) to join a large-scale substation construction project in Finland. The successful candidate will play a key role in the engineering, installation, testing, commissioning and energisation of high-voltage transmission infrastructure, ensuring all works are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with Finnish regulations and project requirements.

The position requires a strong technical background in HV substations, excellent coordination skills and the ability to interface with multidisciplinary project teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight of electrical works associated with HV substation construction projects.
• Review and approve electrical designs, drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Ensure compliance with Finnish electrical regulations, grid operator requirements and project standards.
• Coordinate installation activities relating to primary plant equipment including:
• Power transformers
• GIS and AIS switchgear
• Circuit breakers
• Disconnectors
• Instrument transformers (CTs & VTs)
• Earthing systems
• Auxiliary systems

• Support construction and commissioning teams during installation and energisation activities.
• Review contractor method statements, risk assessments and technical submissions.
• Manage technical interfaces between civil, protection & control, SCADA and commissioning disciplines.
• Participate in FATs, SATs, inspections and witness testing activities.
• Monitor quality and ensure works are delivered in accordance with project specifications and industry best practice.
• Support troubleshooting, defect resolution and commissioning activities.
• Prepare technical reports, progress updates and engineering documentation.
• Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with project health, safety and environmental requirements.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Valid Finnish S1 Electrical Qualification (Sähköpätevyys S1).
• Minimum 5–10 years of experience within HV transmission or substation projects.
• Strong knowledge of HV equipment, installation practices and commissioning processes.
• Experience working on substations ranging from 110kV to 400kV.
• Familiarity with transmission system operators, utility standards and grid connection requirements.
• Proven experience managing technical interfaces across multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of electrical safety procedures, isolation processes and energisation activities.
• Ability to work effectively within an international project environment.
• Fluent English communication skills; Finnish language skills are advantageous.
