We are working with a growing, independent transport planning consultancy that specialises in private-sector development projects. Their work spans site access and masterplanning, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and expert witness services.

They are looking for a Director – Transport Planning to drive growth, develop client relationships, and lead a small but highly talented team. What You Will Be Doing
As Director – Transport Planning, you will have a hands-on leadership role with a focus on:
- Business Development & Client Management
- Lead business development activities and generate new work across the private-sector development market.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships with developers, planning consultants, and architects.
- Take ownership of proposals, fee negotiations, and work-winning strategies.
- Represent the business at industry events, workshops, and client meetings.
Strategic Leadership
- Shape and implement the company’s transport planning growth strategy.
- Mentor and support the team, helping to develop the next generation of planners.
- Ensure high-quality delivery across all projects and maintain technical excellence.
- Oversee project budgets, resource allocation, and profitability.
Technical Oversight & Delivery
- Provide senior oversight on Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Access Appraisals, and transport inputs to planning submissions.
- Advise clients on all stages of development planning from feasibility through to planning approvals and appeals.
- Where needed, act as expert witness in planning inquiries.
- Ensure work complies with national and local transport policies, guidance, and best practice.
About You
Essential Experience & Skills
- 10+ years’ experience in transport planning, ideally in private-sector development.
- Proven track record in winning work and managing client relationships.
- Strong commercial awareness and experience delivering profitable projects.
- Degree-qualified in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or related discipline.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Experience leading and mentoring teams.
Desirable
- Chartered status (CIHT / ICE / TPP or equivalent).
- Experience providing expert witness evidence.
- Knowledge of transport modelling, accessibility analysis, TRICS, TEMPro, GIS.
- Existing client network within the development sector.
