EHS Manager – Frankfurt | Data Centre Project

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced EHS Manager to join a leading General Contractor (GC) delivering a major data centre project in Frankfurt, Germany.

The EHS Manager will take a leading role in managing Environmental, Health & Safety across the construction site, working directly with the GC project and construction teams to ensure the project is delivered safely, efficiently and in full compliance with German legislation, client requirements and company standards.

You will have responsibility for driving EHS performance across the project, working closely with construction management, engineers, subcontractors and the client to maintain a strong and proactive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for EHS management and performance across the construction site.
• Lead the implementation of the project EHS Management Plan and site safety procedures.
• Ensure compliance with German health & safety legislation, client requirements and project standards.
• Provide day-to-day EHS leadership and guidance to the project and construction teams.
• Manage and monitor EHS performance across all subcontractors working on site.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits, safety walks and compliance reviews.
• Identify hazards and ensure appropriate risk control measures are implemented.
• Review and approve RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements) prior to works commencing.
• Manage and monitor the Permit to Work process for high-risk activities.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, safety briefings and EHS training.
• Monitor high-risk construction activities and ensure appropriate controls are in place.
• Ensure safe systems of work are followed across mechanical, electrical, structural and civil construction activities.
• Monitor lifting operations, working at height, hot works, confined spaces and other high-risk activities.
• Work closely with construction managers and subcontractors to resolve EHS issues and prevent repeat incidents.
• Maintain accurate EHS records, reports, inspections and compliance documentation.
• Track project EHS KPIs and provide regular reporting to senior project management.
• Lead emergency preparedness activities, drills and response procedures.
• Promote continuous improvement and a proactive safety culture throughout the project.
• Liaise with the client, authorities, consultants and other project stakeholders regarding EHS matters.
• Ensure environmental requirements and site controls are effectively implemented.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an EHS Manager / HSE Manager / Health & Safety Manager within a General Contractor, Main Contractor or major construction environment.
• Strong experience managing EHS on large-scale construction projects.
• Previous data centre or mission-critical experience is highly desirable.
• Experience managing EHS across large subcontractor workforces.
• Strong knowledge of German health & safety legislation and construction requirements.
• Strong understanding of RAMS, permits, audits, inspections and high-risk construction activities.
• Proven experience investigating incidents and implementing corrective/preventative actions.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence construction teams and subcontractors.
• Confident challenging unsafe working practices and stopping work where necessary.
• NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent recognised EHS qualification.
• Relevant German EHS qualification, such as Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit (SiFa), or equivalent experience is highly advantageous.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• German language skills are advantageous.
• EU working rights are required.
