Job Title: Building Services Design Engineer
Location: Banbridge, Belfast, or Dundalk

Monday–Thursday: 8:00am – 5:00pm

This role is ideal for a motivated design engineer looking to be part of a progressive, multi-award-winning team working on cutting-edge data centre projects throughout the UK and Europe.
This company is at the forefront of modular MEP innovation, delivering turnkey mechanical and electrical solutions built in Ireland and shipped throughout the UK and EU markets. With a focus on design, build, and operate capabilities, this role will play a critical part in developing complex and high-performance data centre infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Design modular chilled water pipework systems and prefabricated plantroom packages for data centre cooling.
Engineer turnkey solutions incorporating chillers, pumps, heat exchangers, buffer vessels, and full MEP infrastructure.
Conduct thermal and hydraulic load analysis to ensure efficient system performance and optimal sizing.
Perform site feasibility studies and surveys for seamless integration of prefabricated systems.
Prepare detailed mechanical designs, including flow calculations, pressure drops, and expansion volumes.
Create mechanical schematics, layout drawings, and fabrication documents for offsite production.
Coordinate with electrical and BMS teams for full integration of power and automation systems.
Ensure BIM coordination and clash detection are achieved for streamlined installation.
Collaborate with MEP consultants, structural, and architectural teams to optimize space and system layout.
Select suitable MEP components and equipment, balancing performance and value.
Prepare and submit technical documentation, liaise with clients and suppliers for design approvals.
Support fabrication and commissioning planning in line with ASHRAE, EN 50600, Uptime Institute, and CIBSE standards.
Participate in project meetings, providing regular design updates and technical insights.
Stay informed on latest trends in offsite construction, modular MEP, and energy-efficient design.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:Essential Criteria:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in building services design.
Strong knowledge of offsite fabrication and modular construction methodologies.
Proficiency in HVAC design calculations: flow, pressure loss, pump sizing, redundancy.
Experience in BIM coordination with a multidisciplinary team.
Strong communication and time management skills.
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Teams).
Desirable Criteria:
Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks for MEP coordination.
Familiarity with BIM Level 2 and CDE (Common Data Environment) workflows.
Knowledge of prefabrication methods including modular skids and packaged plantrooms.
Experience using thermal modelling tools for evaluating data centre cooling performance.
