Job Description
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Wolverhampton. This is a predominantly office-based role where you will work closely with a skilled engineering team to develop and deliver mechanical designs that meet compliance and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Develop mechanical designs in line with fire strategy reports, local building regulations, and planning authority requirements.
Attend design team meetings and collaborate with stakeholders.
Conduct site surveys of existing installations when necessary.
Perform heating/cooling (thermal modelling) and ventilation load calculations using industry-standard software.
Select and size AHUs, FCUs, extract fans, pumps, chillers, ASHP, boilers, plate heat exchangers, etc.
Calculate and size above-ground drainage systems.
Select and size domestic hot and cold water systems (e.g., heaters, storage tanks).
Perform pipe and duct sizing calculations.
(Preferred) Design firefighting sprinkler and pumping systems.
Prepare stage reports, presentations, and detailed design documentation.
Complete Designer’s Risk Assessments and Mitigation Reports.
Produce mechanical layout drawings and schematics.
Ensure projects meet key deadlines and quality standards.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
Significant experience in mechanical building services engineering for construction projects.
Strong knowledge of CIBSE, IEC, BS, IS & EN (Irish/UK standards) or ASHRAE.
Proficiency with design software such as Hevacomp, Carrier HAP, CyMap, IES/TAS.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
