Role Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Roads Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, and delivery of highway and roadway projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and best practice. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects in both urban and regional contexts, contributing to Ireland’s transport infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed highway and roadway designs, including geometric layouts, pavement design, drainage, and associated civil engineering elements.
- Carry out design calculations, traffic analysis, and feasibility studies.
- Produce engineering drawings and technical reports using CAD and relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InRoads).
- Ensure compliance with national and local design standards (e.g., NRA/TII guidelines).
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, drainage, and environmental engineers.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and local authorities throughout project lifecycle.
- Contribute to project planning, risk assessments, and cost estimation.
- Review and provide input on design documentation prepared by junior engineers or external consultants.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in road/highway design.
- Strong knowledge of Irish design standards (TII, NRA, local authority).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InRoads, or similar design software.
- Experience in drainage design, pavement design, and geometric layout.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Skills:
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership.
- Experience with traffic modeling software or GIS applications.
- Exposure to project management principles and client engagement.
