A top M&E consultancy in Dublin is expanding its Energy Infrastructure team and is looking to appoint an experienced Senior High Voltage Engineer to support the design and delivery of major HV and MV infrastructure projects across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
This is a senior technical position offering the opportunity to take ownership of complex electrical infrastructure projects while helping to develop and grow an in-house HV engineering capability.
The successful candidate will work closely with clients, utilities, contractors, OEMs and multidisciplinary engineering teams across a range of high-profile energy and infrastructure projects.
The Role
You will take a lead role in the delivery of HV and MV infrastructure projects, including:
HV and MV substationsAIS and GIS installationsGrid connection infrastructureEnergy centresLanding stations and interconnectorsHV cable systems and associated infrastructureAuxiliary and secondary electrical systems
Key responsibilities will include:
Leading the technical delivery of HV/MV engineering projects.Developing and reviewing single-line diagrams and substation layouts.Producing and reviewing protection and control philosophies.Designing HV cable, earthing and lightning protection systems.Working on secondary systems and auxiliary power requirements.Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and external consultants.Managing technical interfaces with clients, utilities, TSOs/DSOs, contractors and OEMs.Providing technical leadership and guidance to other engineers.Reviewing technical studies and supporting key engineering decisions.Supporting load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, harmonic, power quality and earthing studies.Supporting tenders, technical bids and project planning.Attending client meetings, site visits, inspections and commissioning activities.Helping develop internal HV standards, procedures and engineering capability.Supporting the recruitment, mentoring and development of future members of the HV team.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.8+ years' experience within HV/MV electrical engineering.Strong experience delivering HV infrastructure and substation projects.Experience with substations up to 400kV would be highly advantageous.Experience with both AIS and GIS substations.Strong knowledge of grid connection infrastructure and HV systems.Experience working with utilities, TSOs, DSOs or major infrastructure clients.Strong understanding of primary and secondary substation systems.Knowledge of protection and control systems.Experience with earthing, lightning protection and HV cable systems.Consultancy, utility, energy infrastructure or industrial power experience.Previous experience coordinating engineering teams or external consultants.Chartered Engineer status, or working towards Chartership, would be advantageous.
Technical Skills

IEC, BS, EN and IS standardsHV design principlesSubstation engineeringGrid connection requirementsProtection and controlEarthing and lightning protectionHV cable systems
Experience with software such as AutoCAD, ETAP and PowerFactory is desirable, with PSCAD experience an advantage.
