Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are working with a top Irish building services consultancy seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading role in the design and delivery of technically challenging projects across sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, residential, life sciences and data centres.

You will work within a multidisciplinary environment, managing mechanical services designs from initial concept through to construction while supporting junior engineers and maintaining strong client relationships.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

Leading the mechanical design of building services projects from concept through to completionDesigning HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, water services and drainage systemsProducing technical calculations, specifications, reports and tender documentationCarrying out heating and cooling load calculationsSelecting and specifying mechanical plant and equipmentReviewing mechanical drawings, schedules, calculations and BIM modelsCoordinating mechanical services with electrical, architectural and structural disciplinesManaging design programmes, project deadlines and technical deliverablesAttending client, design-team and site meetingsSupporting projects throughout tender and construction stagesConducting site inspections and reviewing contractor submissionsEnsuring designs comply with relevant Irish building regulations and technical standardsMentoring junior engineers and reviewing their technical workDeveloping sustainable, energy-efficient and low-carbon building solutions

Your Experience

The successful candidate should have:

A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related disciplineApproximately five or more years’ experience in mechanical building services designExperience working for an engineering consultancy or within a similar design environmentStrong technical knowledge of HVAC, public health and mechanical services systemsExperience leading the mechanical design of projects through multiple stagesGood knowledge of Irish building regulations and relevant industry standardsProficiency with relevant mechanical design and calculation softwareExperience using Revit and AutoCAD would be beneficialStrong project-management, communication and coordination skillsThe ability to manage projects and work effectively within multidisciplinary teamsChartered Engineer status, or progress towards chartership, would be advantageous
